The Douglas County is a county in the state of Georgia to the United States . The county seat is Douglasville .

The county is located in northwest Georgia, about 25 miles to the west from the eastern border of Alabama , covers an area of ​​519 square kilometers, of which two square kilometers are water, and is bordered clockwise by the following counties: Cobb County , Fulton County , Carroll County and Paulding County .

The county is part of the metropolitan area of ​​Atlanta .

history

Douglas County was formed on October 17, 1870 from parts of Carroll County and a small part of Cherokee County. It was named, like Douglasville, after Stephen A. Douglas , a member of Congress and rival of Abraham Lincoln during the presidential candidacy.
