The Dougherty County is a county in the state of Georgia to the United States . The county seat is Albany .
geography
The county is located in central southwest Georgia, about 80 km to the south from the northern border of Florida and about 70 km to the west from the eastern border of Alabama . It has an area of 867 square kilometers, of which 13 square kilometers are water and is bordered clockwise by the following counties: Lee County , Worth County , Mitchell County , Baker County , Calhoun County and Terrell County .
The county is part of the Albany metropolitan area .
history
Dougherty County was formed on December 15, 1853 from parts of Baker County. Later parts of Worth County were added. It was named after the judge Charles Dougherty .

According to the 2010 census, the 94,565 inhabitants at that time were distributed among 36,508 inhabited households, which gives an average of 2.47 people per household. There are a total of 40,801 households.
64.2% of the households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or one parent with offspring) with an average size of 3.08 persons. There were children under the age of 18 in 34.3% of all households and persons aged 65 and over in 23.5% of all households.
