The Schley County is a county in the state of Georgia to the United States . The county seat is Ellaville , named after the daughter of the man who made the land available for the city.

Located in west central Georgia, about 70 km from the Alabama border, the county covers 453 square kilometers, one square kilometer of which is water, and is bordered clockwise by the following counties: Taylor County , Macon County , Sumter County, and Marion Counties .

history

Schley County was formed on December 22, 1857 as the 122nd County in Georgia from parts of Marion County and Sumter County. It was named after William Schley , a governor of Georgia.

32.7% of the population were younger than 20 years, 21.4% were 20 to 39 years old, 27.4% were 40 to 59 years old, and 18.3% were at least 60 years old. The mean age was 37 years. 48.0% of the population were male and 52.0% were female.

73.0% of the population identified themselves as whites, 23.3% as African American and 0.7% as Asian Americans . 1.9% said they belonged to another ethnic group and 1.0% to several ethnic groups. 3.2% of the population was made up of Hispanics or Latinos .

The average annual income per household was 41,227 USD , while 21.9% of the population lived below the poverty line.
