The Gordon County is a county in the state of Georgia to the United States . The county seat is Calhoun , named after Senator John C. Calhoun .

The county is located in northwest Georgia, about 25 miles to the north from Tennessee and about 45 km to the west from Alabama . It has an area of 927 square kilometers, of which six square kilometers are water surface and is bordered clockwise by the following counties: Murray County , Pickens County , Bartow County , Floyd County , Walker County, and Whitfield Counties .
history
Gordon County was formed on February 13, 1850 as the 93rd County of Georgia from parts of Bartow County and Floyd Counties. It was named after William Washington Gordon , president of the Central Railroad and Banking Company and later Central of Georgia Railroad .

According to the 2010 census, the then 55,186 inhabitants were distributed over 19,715 inhabited households, which gives an average of 2.77 people per household. There are a total of 22,278 households.
