The Fulton County is a county in the state of Georgia to the United States . The county seat is Atlanta .

The county is located in central northwest Georgia and has an area of 1,385 square kilometers, of which 15 square kilometers are water surface. It is bordered clockwise by the following counties: Forsyth County , Gwinnett County , DeKalb County , Clayton County , Fayette County , Coweta County , Carroll County , Douglas County , Cobb County, and Cherokee Counties .
The county is part of the metropolitan area of Atlanta .
history
Fulton County was formed on December 20, 1853 as the 144th County in Georgia from parts of DeKalb County . It was named after Robert Fulton , who built a new type of steamboat in 1807 and thus revolutionized river navigation. In 1932, Fulton County merged with Milton and Campbell Counties .

According to the 2010 census, the then 920,581 inhabitants were distributed over 376,377 inhabited households, which results in an average of 2.36 people per household. There are a total of 437,105 households.
55.6% of the households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or one parent with offspring) with an average size of 3.15 persons. There were children under the age of 18 in 30.9% of all households and persons aged 65 and over in 17.1% of all households.
26.9% of the population were younger than 20 years old, 32.3% were 20 to 39 years old, 27.1% were 40 to 59 years old, and 13.8% were at least 60 years old. The mean age was 34 years. 48.7% of the population were male and 51.3% were female.
44.5% of the population identified themselves as white, 44.1% as African American , 0.2% as Native American and 5.6% as Asian Americans . 3.4% said they belonged to another ethnic group and 2.2% to several ethnic groups. 7.9% of the population were Hispanics or Latinos .
The average annual income per household was 56,642 USD , while 17.8% of the population lived below the poverty line.
