The county is located in central northwest Georgia and has an area of ​​1,385 square kilometers, of which 15 square kilometers are water surface. It is bordered clockwise by the following counties: Forsyth County , Gwinnett County , DeKalb County , Clayton County , Fayette County , Coweta County , Carroll County , Douglas County , Cobb County, and Cherokee Counties .

The county is part of the metropolitan area of ​​Atlanta .

history

Fulton County was formed on December 20, 1853 as the 144th County in Georgia from parts of DeKalb County . It was named after Robert Fulton , who built a new type of steamboat in 1807 and thus revolutionized river navigation. In 1932, Fulton County merged with Milton and Campbell Counties .
