College Park is a city in the counties of Fulton and Clayton in the US state of Georgia with 13,942 inhabitants (as of 2010).
geography
College Park is about three miles south of Atlanta and is part of the Atlanta metropolitan area . Directly adjacent cities are East Point and Hapeville .
history
In 1890 the place was founded under the name "Manchester". After a college named "Southern Female College" was founded there in 1895, the city was renamed "College Station" a year later. The university, later known as the “Cox Academy”, was also affiliated with a military academy until 1966. The university was then in Woodward Academy renamed and is now one of the largest private schools with co-education in the US.
Demographic data
According to the 2010 census, the then 13,942 inhabitants were distributed over 5,595 inhabited households, which results in an average of 2.49 people per household. There are a total of 7,159 households.
57.2% of the households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or one parent with offspring) with an average size of 3.24 persons. There were children under the age of 18 in 36.4% of all households and persons aged 65 and over in 13.3% of all households.
31.9% of the population were younger than 20 years, 31.9% were 20 to 39 years old, 25.7% were 40 to 59 years old, and 10.5% were at least 60 years old. The mean age was 31 years. 47.3% of the population were male and 52.7% were female.
13.0% of the population identified themselves as white , 79.4% as African-American , 0.4% as Native American and 0.9% as Asian Americans . 4.2% said they belonged to another ethnic group and 2.0% to several ethnic groups. 6.9% of the population was made up of Hispanics or Latinos .
The average annual income per household was 29,087 USD , while 35.1% of the population lived below the poverty line.

College Park is crossed by Interstate Highways 85 and 285 , US Highway 29, and Georgia State Routes 6 , 139 , 279 and 314 . The Atlanta airport is located partly in the eastern city.

The crime rate in 2010 was 1123 points (US average: 266 points) in the very high range. There were 10 murders, 21 rapes, 154 robberies, 108 personal injuries, 592 break-ins, 1,348 thefts, 297 car thefts and six arson attacks.
