The most conspicuous features are aggressive screaming or dynamic alternation of whispering and shouting, so-called whisper-to-a-scream . 2013 to 2014: From Live Life to U Guessed It

OG Maco first attracted attention in the Atlanta music scene in early 2014 when the song Road Running developed from his debut mixtape Live Life , released in late 2013, into a hit in regional clubs.

His breakthrough came with the single U Guessed It . According to his own statements, the song was written when he returned to the studio late at night, drunk and in a bad mood from the Hooters bar . His anger at his own producer resulted in the aggressive freestyle his producer took up. Mattox only realized the recordings the following day. The single was released on August 28, 2014. In the accompanying music video, which Mattox shot spontaneously with crew members and friends, including Rome Fortune, on the night after performances at the Trillectro Music Festival 2014 , they escalate in a hotel:

“Started on a floor, went around, fucked that floor up. Went up a floor, poured everything into the elevator going up, fucked the floor up above us. Recorded everything on that floor, fucked the floor up coming back down. I slide off and the cops were right there. I was like, 'Fuck you, fuck you, fuck you.' They're like, 'We're obviously cops,' but I obviously didn't give a fuck. Like, I had just had the most amazing day of my life - I never performed at Trillectro, I had crowds that was just ready for me, shit like that. So I was just feelin 'on top of the world! "

- Maco Mattox, 2014

The success of the single enabled Maco Mattox to sign a contract with the young and creative indie label Quality Control Music , which mainly looks after up-and-coming artists from Atlanta . He himself stated in an interview with New York magazine The Fader that he would not like the single U Guessed It and called it "the stupidest song [he] ever made" ( Maco mattox : The FADER).
