The Lanier County is a county in the state of Georgia to the United States . The county seat is Lakeland , named after the many lakes in the area.

The county is located in southern Georgia, about 25 miles from the northern Florida border and has an area of ​​518 square kilometers, of which 34 square kilometers are water and is bordered clockwise by the following counties: Atkinson County , Clinch County , Echols County , Lowndes County and Berrien County .

The county is part of the metropolitan area of ​​Valdosta .

history

Lanier County was formed on August 7, 1920 as the 155th County in Georgia. It was named after the Georgia-based poet Sidney Lanier .
