The Thomas County is a county in the state of Georgia to the United States . The county seat is Thomasville .

The county is located in southern Georgia, on the northern border of Florida and has an area of 1,430 square kilometers, of which ten square kilometers are water, and is bordered clockwise by the following counties: Colquitt County , Brooks County , Grady County, and Mitchell Counties .
history
Thomas County was formed on December 23, 1825 as the 63rd County in Georgia from parts of Decatur County and Irwin Counties. It was named, like Thomasville, after General Jett Thomas , a hero of the Indian War of 1812. He also built the first university building in Athens .

According to the 2010 census, the then 44,720 inhabitants were distributed over 17,573 inhabited households, which gives an average of 2.50 people per household. There are a total of 20,177 households.
68.3% of the households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or one parent with offspring) with an average size of 3.03 persons. There were children under the age of 18 in 33.8% of all households and persons aged 65 or over in 28.0% of all households.
27.4% of the population were younger than 20 years, 23.0% were 20 to 39 years old, 28.4% were 40 to 59 years old, and 21.0% were at least 60 years old. The mean age was 40 years. 47.4% of the population were male and 52.6% were female.
59.6% of the population identified themselves as whites, 36.9% as African American , 0.4% as Indians and 0.7% as Asian Americans . 1.2% said they belonged to another ethnic group and 1.2% to several ethnic groups. 2.9% of the population was made up of Hispanics or Latinos .
The average annual income per household was 38,241 USD , while 21.3% of the population lived below the poverty line.
