The Wilkinson County is a county in the state of Georgia to the United States . The county seat is Irwinton , named after Jared Irwin , a governor of Georgia.

The county is located a few miles east of the geographic center of Georgia and has an area of 1,171 square kilometers, of which 14 square kilometers are water surface. It is bordered clockwise by the following counties: Washington County , Johnson County , Laurens County , Twiggs County , Jones County, and Baldwin Counties .
history
Wilkinson County was formed as the 29th County of Georgia on May 11, 1803. It was named after General James Wilkinson of Maryland , an officer in the Revolutionary War and the first governor of the Louisiana Territory .
