The county is located in southwest Georgia and borders Alabama to the west . It has an area of ​​562 square kilometers, of which 56 square kilometers are water and is bordered clockwise by the following counties: Quitman County , Randolph County , Calhoun County and Early County .

history

Clay County was formed on February 16, 1854 from parts of Early County and Randolph Counties. It was named after Henry Clay , a Senator from Kentucky .
