NexTView

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

NexTView was an electronic program guide for the analog television signal , whereby the NexTView data could also be transmitted with digital television transmission ( DVB ). The transmission protocol is based on the teletext signal, but binary data is not transmitted, rather than pre-formatted text pages. In addition to the title and a short description, the programs were divided into different categories (for example, feature films or science fiction; recommended age between six and twelve, etc.) and could then be searched. The EPG data from several stations were transmitted simultaneously as a package via a NexTView channel. For updating these channels had to be set with the NexTView service (at least in the background) until the data was completely received.

The open source software nxtvepg made it possible to receive NexTView on a PC.

Some manufacturers of devices with which NexTView could be received: Grundig , Loewe , Metz , Philips , Sony , Thomson , Quelle Universum .

From 1997 to October 2013, NexTView was broadcast on Swiss television channels as well as on French-speaking channels whose teletext offers were managed by Swiss television ( SwissText ) ( TV5 , M6 , Canal + ). TV5 Monde Europe and TV5 Monde France Belgique Suisse stopped broadcasting on July 9, 2013, and no more data were updated. The contract with the Swiss Teletext AG , which had taken care of the entire teletext offer of TV5, was terminated in order to use the transmission capacities for other purposes.

In Germany, the service could be received on cable one with interruptions . NexTView was supposed to be switched off by kabel eins as early as December 2010, according to a switch-off notice in the program data, but it was still broadcast until 2012 with the same notice. Another provider was RTL2 until 2006. When their teletext was still being looked after by SwissText , Euronews (until 2004) and 3sat (until 2003) also offered NexTView .

The only remaining service on Swiss television was discontinued on October 31, 2013 because the NexTView service, whose importance for viewers had declined sharply, was not to be continued in the course of modernizing SRG's broadcasting systems.

Old, purely analog devices that use NexTView (Loewe, Sony, Fast TVServer ) no longer have an EPG or can no longer be programmed. Digital satellite receivers offer the digital DVB-EIT as an alternative, even if one of the old devices mentioned above is connected to it. Programming functions of such old devices, for example for recording control, do not work with it.
