The Cherokee County is a county in the state of Georgia to the United States . The county seat is Canton .
geography
The county is north-northwest of the geographic center of Georgia, about 100 km to the north from Tennessee and about 80 km to the west from Alabama . It covers an area of 1,124 square kilometers, of which 27 square kilometers are water surface and is bordered clockwise by the following counties: Pickens County , Dawson County , Forsyth County , Fulton County , Cobb County and Bartow Counties .
The county is part of the metropolitan area of Atlanta .

Cherokee County was formed on December 21, 1830 as Original County from the area populated by the Cherokee Indian tribe , after which it was named.
