Woodstock is a city in Cherokee County in the US state of Georgia with 23,896 inhabitants (as of 2010).

Woodstock is about 15 km south of Canton and about 40 km north of Atlanta .

history

The railroad reached Woodstock in 1879. The place had 300 inhabitants at that time, while the population lived from grain growing , wood carving and yarn spinning . In the 1890s, cotton growing became more important. After the turn of the millennium, the population more than doubled.

Demographic data

According to the 2010 census, the 23,896 inhabitants at that time were distributed over 9,580 inhabited households, which gives an average of 2.48 people per household. There are a total of 10,298 households.

64.1% of the households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or one parent with offspring) with an average size of 3.12 persons. There were children under the age of 18 in 37.4% of all households and persons aged 65 and over in 16.0% of all households.

28.3% of the population were younger than 20 years, 34.2% were 20 to 39 years old, 24.7% were 40 to 59 years old, and 12.8% were at least 60 years old. The mean age was 34 years. 46.9% of the population were male and 53.1% were female.

79.3% of the population identified themselves as white , 10.2% as African American , 0.2% as Native American and 4.5% as Asian Americans . 2.7% said they belonged to another ethnic group and 3.1% to several ethnic groups. 9.7% of the population were Hispanics or Latinos .

The average annual income per household was 68,286 USD , while 7.3% of the population lived below the poverty line.

In 1995, the Woodstock Depot was inscribed on the National Register of Historic Places .
