The Twiggs County is a county in the state of Georgia to the United States . The county seat is Jeffersonville .

The county is located near the geographic center of Georgia and covers an area of 940 square kilometers, of which seven square kilometers are water surface. It is bordered clockwise by the following counties: Wilkinson County , Bleckley County , Houston County , Bibb County, and Jones County .
The county is part of the Macon Metropolitan Area .
history
Twiggs County was formed on December 14, 1809 as the 37th County of Georgie from parts of Wilkinson County. It was named after General John Twiggs , a prominent leader in the Revolutionary War and the Indian Wars.

According to the 2010 census, the then 9,023 inhabitants were distributed over 3,634 inhabited households, which gives an average of 2.46 people per household. There are a total of 4235 households.
68.6% of households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or one parent with offspring) with an average size of 2.99 people. There were children under the age of 18 in 28.8% of all households and persons aged 65 and over in 30.4% of all households.
23.4% of the population were younger than 20 years old, 20.4% were 20 to 39 years old, 31.7% were 40 to 59 years old, and 23.6% were at least 60 years old. The mean age was 45 years. 48.7% of the population were male and 51.3% were female.
56.8% of the population identified themselves as whites, 41.3% as African American , 0.3% as Indians and 0.2% as Asian Americans . 0.3% said they belonged to another ethnic group and 1.1% to several ethnic groups. 1.4% of the population were Hispanics or Latinos .
The average annual income per household was 31,625 USD , while 30.3% of the population lived below the poverty line.
