The Twiggs County is a county in the state of Georgia to the United States . The county seat is Jeffersonville .

The county is located near the geographic center of Georgia and covers an area of ​​940 square kilometers, of which seven square kilometers are water surface. It is bordered clockwise by the following counties: Wilkinson County , Bleckley County , Houston County , Bibb County, and Jones County .

The county is part of the Macon Metropolitan Area .

history

Twiggs County was formed on December 14, 1809 as the 37th County of Georgie from parts of Wilkinson County. It was named after General John Twiggs , a prominent leader in the Revolutionary War and the Indian Wars.

The average annual income per household was 31,625 USD , while 30.3% of the population lived below the poverty line.
