The county is located in northeast Georgia, borders South Carolina and has an area of 797 square kilometers, of which 46 square kilometers are water and is bordered clockwise by the following counties: Richmond County , McDuffie County and Lincoln County .
The county is part of the metropolitan area of Augusta .
history
Columbia County was formed on December 10, 1790 from parts of Richmond County. It was named after Christopher Columbus .
