The Floyd County is a county in the state of Georgia to the United States . The county seat is Rome .

geography

The county is located in northwest Georgia, borders Alabama to the west and is approximately 60 km from Tennessee to the north . It has an area of ​​1,343 square kilometers, of which 14 square kilometers are water and is bordered clockwise by the following counties: Gordon County , Bartow County , Polk County and Chattooga County .

The county is known as the Rome Metropolitan Statistical Area by the Office of Management and Budget for statistical purposes .

history

Floyd County was formed on December 3, 1832 as the 82nd County in Georgia from parts of Cherokee County. It was named after General John Floyd of South Carolina , an officer during the Indian fighting and a member of the US Congress. The county seat was Livingstone until 1834, when it became Rome.

The average annual income per household was 41,046 USD , while 21.4% of the population lived below the poverty line.
