The metropolitan area of Athens-Clarke County (ger .: Athens - Clarke County metropolitan area ) is a metropolitan region in the northeast of the US state of Georgia . It represents a Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA) defined by the Office of Management and Budget and includes the counties Clarke , Madison , Oconee and Oglethorpe . The center of the agglomeration area is the city of Athens .

At the time of the 2010 census , the area had 192,541 residents.
