The Upson County is a county in the state of Georgia to the United States . The county seat is Thomaston .

The county is located in west-west Georgia, about 50 miles from the Alabama border and covers an area of 849 square kilometers, of which six square kilometers are water, and is bordered clockwise by the following counties: Lamar County , Monroe County , Crawford County , Taylor County , Talbot County , Meriwether County, and Pike County .
history
Upson County was formed on December 15, 1824 as the 59th County of Georgia from parts of Crawford County and Pike Counties. It was named after Stephen Upson , a well-known lawyer and politician at the time.

According to the 2010 census, the then 27,153 inhabitants were distributed over 10,716 inhabited households, which gives an average of 2.49 people per household. There are a total of 12,161 households.
68.9% of the households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or one parent with offspring) with an average size of 3.00 persons. There were children under the age of 18 in 32.8% of all households and persons aged 65 and over in 29.1% of all households.
26.5% of the population were younger than 20 years, 23.1% were 20 to 39 years old, 28.3% were 40 to 59 years old, and 22.1% were at least 60 years old. The mean age was 40 years. 48.0% of the population were male and 52.0% were female.
68.8% of the population identified themselves as whites, 28.0% as African-Americans , 0.3% as Indians and 0.5% as Asian Americans . 1.2% said they belonged to another ethnic group and 1.2% to several ethnic groups. 2.2% of the population was made up of Hispanics or Latinos .
The average annual income per household was 35,699 USD , while 22.9% of the population lived below the poverty line.
