The Richmond County is a county in the state of Georgia to the United States . The county seat is Augusta , named after Augusta von Sachsen-Gotha , Princess of Wales and was also the capital of Georgia from 1785 to 1795.

The county is located in northeast Georgia, on the border with South Carolina and has an area of 851 square kilometers, of which eleven square kilometers are water surface, and is bordered clockwise by the following counties: Burke County , Jefferson County , McDuffie County and Columbia County .
The county is part of the metropolitan area of Augusta .
history
Richmond County was formed as the Original County on February 5, 1777. It was named after the British Duke of Richmond. The following counties were later formed from Richmond County: Columbia County , Glascock County and McDuffie Counties and parts of the counties: Jefferson County and Warren County .

According to the 2010 census, the then 200,549 inhabitants were distributed over 76,924 inhabited households, which gives an average of 2.47 people per household. There are a total of 86,331 households.
63.2% of the households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or one parent with offspring) with an average size of 3.09 persons. Children under the age of 18 lived in 33.6% of all households and persons aged 65 or over in 22.3% of all households.
28.2% of the population were younger than 20 years old, 29.8% were 20 to 39 years old, 25.7% were 40 to 59 years old, and 16.4% were at least 60 years old. The mean age was 33 years. 48.4% of the population were male and 51.6% were female.
39.7% of the population identified themselves as whites, 54.2% as African American , 0.3% as Indians and 1.7% as Asian Americans . 1.5% said they belonged to another ethnic group and 2.6% to several ethnic groups. 4.1% of the population was made up of Hispanics or Latinos .
The average annual income per household was 38,595 USD , while 25.2% of the population lived below the poverty line.
