The Jones County is a county in the state of Georgia to the United States . The county seat is Gray , named after James Madison Gray , who supported the Confederates financially during the Civil War.

The county is located approximately 30 km north of the geographic center of Georgia and has an area of 1,024 square kilometers, of which four square kilometers are water, and is bordered clockwise by the following counties: Putnam County , Baldwin County , Wilkinson County , Twiggs County , Bibb County , Monroe County , and Jasper County .
The county is part of the Macon Metropolitan Area .

Jones County was formed on December 10, 1807 as the 30th County of Georgia from parts of Baldwin County. It was named after James Jones , a member of Congress from Georgia.
