The Wayne County is a county in the state of Georgia to the United States . The county seat is Jesup .
geography
The county is located in southeast Georgia, about 25 miles from the Atlantic Ocean in the southeast and about 50 miles from Florida in the south. It covers an area of 1,680 square kilometers, of which eleven square kilometers are water, and is bordered clockwise by the following counties: Long County , McIntosh County , Glynn County , Brantley County , Pierce County , Appling County, and Tattnall Counties .
history
Wayne County was formed on May 11, 1803 as the 28th County of Georgia from the land of the Creek Indians. It was named after General Anthony Wayne .

According to the 2010 census, the then 30,099 inhabitants were distributed over 10,562 inhabited households, which gives an average of 2.63 people per household. There are a total of 12,199 households.
72.8% of the households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or one parent with offspring) with an average size of 3.09 persons. Children under the age of 18 lived in 37.5% of all households and persons aged 65 or over in 26.0% of all households.
27.3% of the population were younger than 20 years, 26.4% were 20 to 39 years old, 28.0% were 40 to 59 years old, and 18.4% were at least 60 years old. The mean age was 38 years. 52.2% of the population were male and 47.8% were female.
74.9% of the population identified themselves as whites, 19.9% as African-Americans , 0.4% as Indians and 0.5% as Asian Americans . 2.2% said they belonged to another ethnic group and 2.0% to several ethnic groups. 5.7% of the population was Hispanic or Latino .
The average annual income per household was 39,908 USD , while 20.6% of the population lived below the poverty line.
