The Evans County is a county in the state of Georgia to the United States . The county seat is Claxton , named after Kate Claxton , a famous actress at the time.

The county is located in east-east Georgia, 80 km to the east from South Carolina and 80 km to the southeast from the Atlantic Ocean . It has an area of ​​484 square kilometers, of which five square kilometers are water and is bordered clockwise by the following counties: Bulloch County , Bryan County , Liberty County , Tattnall County and Candler County .

Evans County was formed on August 11, 1914 as the 150th County in Georgia from parts of Bulloch County and Tattnall Counties. It was named after Clement Anselm Evans , a Confederate general.

According to the 2010 census, the then 11,000 inhabitants were distributed among 4,033 inhabited households, which gives an average of 2.63 people per household. There are a total of 4,664 households.

58.8% of the population identified themselves as whites, 29.1% as African American , 0.2% as Indians and 0.7% as Asian Americans . 10.2% said they belonged to another ethnic group and 1.1% to several ethnic groups. 13.1% of the population were Hispanics or Latinos .

The average annual income per household was 37,804 USD , while 27.0% of the population lived below the poverty line.
