The Stephens County is a county in the state of Georgia to the United States . The county seat is Toccoa , named after an Indian word that means beautiful .

The county is located in northern Georgia, borders South Carolina in the northeast and is approximately 25 miles from North Carolina in the north . It has an area of ​​477 square kilometers, of which 13 square kilometers are water surface and is bordered clockwise by the following counties: Franklin County , Banks County and Habersham Counties .

history

Stephens County was formed on August 18, 1905 from parts of Franklin County and Habersham County. It was named after Alexander Hamilton Stephens , a Confederate vice president and governor of Georgia.
