The Harris County is a county in the state of Georgia to the United States . The county seat is Hamilton , named after James Hamilton Jr. , a governor from South Carolina .

The county in western Georgia is bordered by Alabama and has an area of 1,225 square kilometers, of which 24 square kilometers are water and is bordered clockwise by the following counties: Troup County , Meriwether County , Talbot County, and Muscogee Counties .
The county is part of the Columbus metropolitan area .
history
Harris County was formed on December 14, 1827 as the 71st County of Georgia from parts of Muscogee County and Troup Counties. It was named after Charles Harris, a lawyer and mayor of Savannah.
