The Rabun County is a county in the state of Georgia to the United States . The county seat is Clayton , named after Judge Augustin S. Clayton , a prominent lawyer and member of Congress.

The county is located in the far north of Georgia, bordered by North Carolina to the north and South Carolina to the east . It has an area of 976 square kilometers, of which 15 square kilometers are water surface and is bordered clockwise by the following counties: Habersham County and Towns County .
history
Rabun County was founded on December 21, 1819 as the 47th county of Georgia from land of Cherokee Indian Territory. It was named after William Rabun , the 31st governor of Georgia.

According to the 2010 census, the then 16,276 inhabitants were distributed over 6,780 inhabited households, which gives an average of 2.34 people per household. There are a total of 12,313 households.

93.3% of the population identified themselves as whites, 1.0% as African American , 0.4% as Indians and 0.7% as Asian Americans . 3.0% said they belonged to another ethnic group and 1.5% to several ethnic groups. 8.0% of the population was made up of Hispanics or Latinos .
