The county is located in southwest Georgia, on the border with Alabama and has an area of ​​417 square kilometers, of which 24 square kilometers are water surface and is bordered clockwise by the following counties: Stewart County , Randolph County and Clay County .

history

Quitman County was formed on December 10, 1858 from parts of Randolph County and Stewart County. It was named after General John A. Quitman , a leader in the Texan-Mexican War, governor of Mississippi, and an advocate for state rights.
