The Putnam County is a county in the state of Georgia to the United States . The county seat is Eatonton .

The county is located in north-central Georgia and has an area of 934 square kilometers, of which 42 square kilometers are water surface and is bordered clockwise by the following counties: Greene County , Hancock County , Baldwin County , Jones County , Jasper County and Morgan County .
history
Putnam County was formed on December 10, 1807 as the 33rd county in Georgia from parts of Baldwin County. It was named after Israel Putnam , a Connecticut general who also took part in the Battle of Bunker Hill .

According to the 2010 census, the then 21,218 inhabitants were distributed over 8,601 inhabited households, which gives an average of 2.45 people per household. There are a total of 12,804 households.
70.6% of the households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or one parent with offspring) with an average size of 2.88 persons. Children under the age of 18 lived in 29.0% of all households and persons aged 65 or over in 31.8% of all households.
23.6% of the population were younger than 20 years, 21.9% were 20 to 39 years old, 28.1% were 40 to 59 years old, and 26.1% were at least 60 years old. The mean age was 44 years. 48.7% of the population were male and 51.3% were female.
67.9% of the population identified themselves as whites, 26.0% as African-Americans , 0.2% as Indians and 0.5% as Asian Americans . 4.2% said they belonged to another ethnic group and 1.2% to several ethnic groups. 6.3% of the population was made up of Hispanics or Latinos .
The average annual income per household was 45,762 USD , while 17.8% of the population lived below the poverty line.
