The Clayton County is a county in the state of Georgia to the United States . The county seat is Jonesboro .
geography
The county is located in central northwest Georgia and covers an area of 374 square kilometers, of which four square kilometers are water surface, and is bordered clockwise by the following counties: DeKalb County , Henry County , Spalding County , Fayette County, and Fulton County .
The northwestern part of the county is occupied by the Hartsfield – Jackson Atlanta International Airport . The county is part of the metropolitan area of Atlanta .
history
Clayton County was formed on November 30, 1858 as the 125th County of Georgia from parts of Fayette County and Henry Counties. It was named after Augustin S. Clayton , an early judge and later member of the Georgian House of Representatives and Senator.

According to the 2010 census, the then 259,424 inhabitants were distributed over 90,633 inhabited households, which gives an average of 2.82 people per household. There are a total of 104,705 households.
68.8% of the households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or one parent with offspring) with an average size of 3.37 persons. There were children under the age of 18 in 42.1% of all households and persons aged at least 65 in 14.8% of all households.
32.0% of the population were younger than 20 years, 30.9% were 20 to 39 years old, 26.5% were 40 to 59 years old, and 10.7% were at least 60 years old. The mean age was 32 years. 47.9% of the population were male and 52.1% were female.
18.9% of the population identified themselves as whites, 66.1% as African American , 0.4% as Indians and 5.0% as Asian Americans . 7.2% said they belonged to another ethnic group and 2.5% to several ethnic groups. 13.7% of the population were Hispanics or Latinos .
The average annual income per household was 40,314 USD , while 24.8% of the population lived below the poverty line.
