Alpharetta is a city in Fulton County in the US state of Georgia with 57,551 inhabitants (as of 2010).
geography
Alpharetta is directly adjacent to the cities of Milton (north), Johns Creek (southeast) and Roswell (southwest) and is located approximately 20 km north of Atlanta .
history
The first settlers came to Alpharetta around 1830. Previously lived in the Cherokee region , which was driven to an Indian reservation in Oklahoma following a resolution by the Indian Removal Act . The settlers put the name of their city together from the Greek words "Alpha" (first) and "Retta" (city). On December 11, 1858, Alpharetta was incorporated as a city. The historic city center is a sight today. It is the birth town of Riley Puckett , a prominent American country and hillbilly musician and guitarist of the 1920s and 1930s.
Demographic data
According to the 2010 census, the then 57,551 inhabitants were distributed over 21,742 inhabited households, which results in an average of 2.64 people per household. There are a total of 23,029 households.
69.6% of households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or one parent with offspring) with an average size of 3.23 people. There were children under the age of 18 in 42.1% of all households and persons aged 65 and over in 14.9% of all households.
30.7% of the population were younger than 20 years, 25.2% were 20 to 39 years old, 32.8% were 40 to 59 years old, and 11.3% were at least 60 years old. The mean age was 37 years. 48.7% of the population were male and 51.3% were female.
70.0% of the population identified themselves as whites , 10.9% as African American , 0.2% as Indians and 13.4% as Asian Americans . 2.9% said they belonged to another ethnic group and 2.7% to several ethnic groups. 8.5% of the population was made up of Hispanics or Latinos .
The average annual income per household was 93,613 USD , while 6.9% of the population lived below the poverty line.

Alpharetta is crossed and tangent to US Highway 19 and Georgia State Routes 9 , 120 and 140 . The nearest airport is Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (around 50 km south).

The crime rate in 2010 was 156 points (US average: 266 points) in the low range. There were two rapes, 24 robberies, 23 assaults, 189 break-ins, 1253 thefts, 25 car thefts and one arson.
