Hi-Rez Studios is a private, American computer game - development company in Alpharetta , Georgia . Founded in 2005 by Erez Goren and Todd Harris, the company is one of the largest video game development studios in the southeastern United States. Hi-Rez Studios is the developer of the team-based multiplayer - first-person shooter Global Agenda , the game Tribes: Ascend , the third person - MOBA Smite and Shooters Paladins .

history

In 2005, Erez Goren founded the Hi-Rez Studios development studio with Todd Harris . They hired game developers for titles like The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion and Call of Duty . Hi-Rez Studios now employs more than 200 people in Alpharetta, in the northern metropolitan area of Atlanta . Hi-Rez Studios works with Valve , the developer of the Steam gaming platform .

Hi-Rez Studios was named one of the top 30 video game developers by Game Developer and Gamasutra in 2012 . Hi-Rez is the current owner of the license to Metaltech , which includes games like Battledrome and the Tribes game series . The vast majority of the games in the Metaltech series (with the exception of Battledrome and Cyberstorm ) were released as freeware by Hi-Rez Studios.

Global Agenda

Global Agenda is a team-based multiplayer game. It was released on February 1, 2010. In April 2011, Global Agenda was presented as the first free-to-play game on the Steam platform. This version was the first game to introduce an in-game shop with a second currency (called Agenda Points ). In addition, a distinction is made between the free, free-to-play version and a paid version.

Tribes Universe

Tribes Universe was a multiplayer online - shooter based on the Tribes -Spieleserie. The game was announced on October 23, 2010. The testing phase was scheduled for early 2011 before Hi-Rez Studios stopped development and started working on the game Tribes: Ascend .

Tribes: Ascend

Tribes: Ascend is a free-to-play multiplayer - shooter and part of the Tribes series. It was announced by Hi-Rez Studios on March 11, 2011 at Penny Arcade Expo East, and was first released on April 12, 2012. Tribes: Ascend scored 86 points on Metacritic and was listed as the 8th most successful PC shooter by PC Gamer . Successful aspects of previous Tribes titles like Jetpacks have also been carried over into Tribes: Ascent .

Hi-Rez Studios' Todd Harris announced the end of the game on July 12, 2013, to the disappointment of the gaming community.

Smite

Smite is a free-to-play third-person MOBA for Microsoft Windows , OS X , Xbox One , PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch . The player takes control of a mythological deity from different epochs and plays in an arena with his team against players with similar deities and computer-controlled units. Hi-Rez Studios announced Smite at the Penny Arcade Expo on April 21, 2011. The first closed beta phase started on May 31, 2012 for the PC. The open beta followed on January 24, 2013. The beta tests generated more than 74 million hours of gaming time and a large, partly competitive player community. During the beta, Hi-Rez Studios hosted various offline and online events with different sized prize pools.

Smite was officially released for PC on March 25, 2014 in North America and Western Europe . The Xbox One version followed on August 19, 2015 and the PlayStation 4 version was presented on May 31, 2016.

Paladins: Champions of the Realm

Paladins: Champions of the Realm (“ Paladins” for short ) is a team-based free-to-play online game . In previous versions of the game, a major component was the card system. As the game progressed, each player could collect random cards and thus improve the health, damage and skills of his hero. The current card system only allows the use of predefined decks of cards with upgrades for different skills and values. The game was announced on August 5, 2015. The Paladins: Champions of the Realm Open Beta started on September 16, 2016 and was released on Steam as an Early Access title on the same day .

Jetpack fighter

Jetpack Fighter is a free-to-play platformer game for mobile platforms. Players swipe across the screen to move and attack. To perform a special ability, press the screen. Each completion of a level advances the player in the campaign , which allows them to unlock better items and new characters. Players can challenge fellow players in player versus player mode. The game was released for iOS on January 7, 2016 . It was featured on the platform as the "Best New Game". For Android , the game was released in July 2016. It scores 83 on Metacritic.
