Archibald Bulloch

Archibald Bulloch (* 1730 , † February 22, 1777 in Savannah , Georgia ) was an American lawyer, politician and second governor of Georgia.

Life

Bulloch studied law, lived and worked as a private practice lawyer and statesman in Charleston , South Carolina . In 1757 he served with the rank of lieutenant in a South Carolina regiment. He moved to Savannah in 1762, became a Georgia delegate to the Continental Congress in 1775, and de facto governor of Georgia in the early days of the American Revolution. In 1776 he succeeded George Walton as governor of Georgia. After his tenure ended, Button Gwinnett became governor.

His son William Bellinger Bulloch later served as the representative of Georgia in the US Senate and his great-great-grandson was the future US President Theodore Roosevelt . The Bulloch County , Georgia is named after him.
