William Bellinger Bulloch

William Bellinger Bulloch (* 1777 in Savannah , Georgia ; †  May 6, 1852 ibid) was an American politician ( Democratic Republican Party ) who represented the state of Georgia in the US Senate . His father was Archibald Bulloch , the second governor of Georgia.

William Bulloch studied law and was admitted to the Savannah Bar in 1797, where he began practicing. In 1804 he was appointed district attorney. He was elected Mayor of Savannah in 1812 and was an alderman for his hometown in 1814. During the British-American War he served in the artillery of the Savannah Militia that defended Georgia's coast.

After the war ended, Bulloch took on a number of public offices. He was the state's solicitor general , head of the customs service ( collector of customs ) and a member of the House of Representatives and the Georgia Senate . From April 8, 1813 to November 6 of the same year, he was finally a member of the US Senate. He took the place of the resigned William Harris Crawford and was replaced by William Wyatt Bibb , who won the by-election .

Bulloch then withdrew from politics. He was one of the founders of the State Bank of Georgia , and served as its president from 1816 to 1843.
