Thomas W. Cobb

Thomas Willis Cobb (born 1784 in Columbia County , Georgia , †  February 1, 1830 in Greensboro , Georgia) was an American politician ( Democratic Republican Party ) who represented the state of Georgia in both chambers of Congress .

After completing his school education, Thomas Cobb studied law . He became a member of the bar and began practicing in Lexington . He later moved to Greensboro, Greene County .

On March 4, 1817, Cobb became a member of the United States House of Representatives . After four years of membership in Congress, he initially missed re-election, but then returned to Parliament on March 4, 1823. He resigned his mandate there on December 6, 1824, after he was elected US Senator . In the Senate, he succeeded the late Nicholas Ware and remained there until his own resignation in 1828. He was subsequently a judge in the Superior Court of Georgia until he died in February 1830.

The Cobb County in Georgia was named for Thomas W. Cobb.
