Robert Lindsay Thomas (born November 20, 1943 in Patterson , Pierce County , Georgia ) is a former American politician . Between 1983 and 1993 he represented the state of Georgia in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Lindsay Thomas attended Patterson High School until 1961 and then studied at the University of Georgia in Athens until 1965 . Between 1966 and 1972 he served in the National Guard of his home state. He then worked as a banker in the investment industry and as a farmer. Politically, Thomas joined the Democratic Party . In the 1982 congressional election he was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the first constituency of Georgia , where he succeeded Ronald Bryan Ginn on January 3, 1983 . After four re-elections, he was able to complete five legislative terms in Congress by January 3, 1993 .

In 1992 Thomas decided not to run for the US House of Representatives again. After that he was ahead of the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta director of the Planning Commission set up by the state government of Georgia. He then headed the Georgia Chamber of Commerce. He later became vice president of a lobbying firm based in the state capital, Atlanta.
