George Cary (politician)

George Cary (born August 7, 1789 in Allens Fresh , Charles County , Maryland , †  September 10, 1843 in Thomaston , Georgia ) was an American politician . Between 1823 and 1827 he represented the state of Georgia in the US House of Representatives .

Career

George Cary attended public schools in his home country. After a subsequent law degree and his admission as a lawyer, he began to work in Frederick in his new profession. He also worked in agriculture. Cary later moved to Appling , Georgia. Politically, he became a member of the Democratic Republican Party .

Between 1819 and 1821 he was a member of the Georgia House of Representatives . In the state-wide congressional elections of 1822 , Cary was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC for the third mandate of Georgia . There he took over from George Rockingham Gilmer on March 4, 1823 . After a re-election in 1824, he was able to complete two terms in Congress until March 3, 1827 . It was then that he became a supporter of future President Andrew Jackson .

After his time in the US House of Representatives ended, Cary got into the newspaper business. In 1834 he was once again a member of the House of Representatives of his state. George Cary died in Thomaston on September 10, 1843.
