Prince Hulon Preston Jr. (born July 5, 1908 in Monroe , Walton County , Georgia , †  February 8, 1961 in Savannah , Georgia) was an American politician . He represented the state of Georgia as a member of the US House of Representatives .

Career

Preston attended Statesboro public school . He then graduated from the Law Department of the University of Georgia at Athens in 1930 . He was admitted to the bar in the same year and opened a practice in Statesboro. Between 1935 and 1938 he was a member of the Georgia House of Representatives . When the United States entered World War II, he enlisted in the US Army as a simple soldier in September 1942 . He was promoted to the rank of captain and discharged on October 13, 1945.

After the war, he was elected Judge in Statesboro City Court in 1946, but did not accept the office because he had been elected to Congress. He was elected a Democrat in the 80th and six subsequent Congresses. His term of office ran from January 3, 1947 to January 3, 1961. He ran again for Congress in 1960, but failed. During his tenure he was involved in the constitution of the Southern Manifesto , which spoke out against racial integration in public institutions. Preston died in Savannah on February 8, 1961. He was buried in the Eastside Cemetery in Statesboro.
