Zadock Cook

Zadock Cook (born February 18, 1769 in Colony of Virginia , †  August 3, 1863 in Athens , Georgia ) was an American politician . Between 1816 and 1819 he represented the state of Georgia in the US House of Representatives .

Career

The exact place of birth of Zadock Cook is unknown. He came to Georgia in his youth and became one of the earliest settlers in Clarke County . Cook did not attend schools, but taught himself the necessary basic knowledge. In 1793 he was an ensign in the militia in Washington County ; In 1796 he became captain of the Hancock County militia .

Politically, Cook was a member of the Democratic Republican Party founded by President Thomas Jefferson . In 1806 and 1807 he was a member of the Georgia House of Representatives , and from 1810 to 1814 he was a member of the State Senate . After the resignation of MP Alfred Cuthbert , Cook was elected as his successor to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC at the by-election due for the fourth seat of Georgia , where he took up his new mandate on December 2, 1816. After being re-elected, he could remain in Congress until March 3, 1819 .

In 1822, Cook was again a member of the Georgia House of Representatives. Between 1823 and 1824 he was also a member of the State Senate. Then he retired to his plantation at Watkinsville , which he managed.
