Charles Hillyer Brand (born April 20, 1861 in Loganville , Walton County , Georgia , †  May 17, 1933 in Athens , Georgia) was an American politician . Between 1917 and 1933 he represented the state of Georgia in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Charles Brand attended the public schools of his home country and then studied until 1881 at the University of Georgia in Athens. After studying law and being admitted to the bar in 1882, he began to work in his new profession. At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Democratic Party . He was a member and president of the Georgia Senate in 1894 and 1895 . In the following years, Brand also worked in the banking industry. He was president of Brand Banking Co. , Lawrenceville, and director of Georgia National Bank and the American State Bank. Between 1896 and 1904, Brand was a prosecutor in the Georgia Western Judicial District. He then served as a judge at the Superior Court from 1906 to 1917.

In the 1916 congressional election , incumbent Samuel Joelah Tribble was originally elected to the eighth constituency of Georgia in the US House of Representatives in Washington . He died before the end of his previous legislative period. As a result, two by-elections were held. It was Tinsley W. Rucker , elected to Congress to end between 11 January and 3 March 1917, the current legislative period. Charles Brand was elected for the new legislative period beginning March 4, 1917. After seven re-elections, he could remain in Congress until his death on May 17, 1933 . Since March 4, 1933, he represented the tenth district of his state there. During his time as a congressman, the First World War and the passing of the 18th , 19th and 20th amendments to the Constitution took place .
