Stephen Pace
Olin Stephen Pace (born March 9, 1891 in Dawson , Georgia , † April 5, 1970 in Americus , Georgia) was an American politician . Between 1937 and 1951 he represented the state of Georgia in the US House of Representatives .
Career
Stephen Pace attended his homeland public schools and then the Georgia School of Technology in Atlanta . After completing a law degree at the University of Georgia in Athens and being admitted to the bar in 1914, he began working in his new profession in Americus. He also worked in agriculture.
Politically, Pace was a member of the Democratic Party . Between 1917 and 1920 he was a member of the Georgia House of Representatives ; from 1923 to 1924 he was a member of the State Senate . In the 1936 congressional elections , he was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the third constituency of Georgia , where he succeeded Bryant Thomas Castellow on January 3, 1937 . After six re-elections, he was able to complete seven legislative terms in Congress by January 3, 1951 . There, further New Deal laws were passed by the federal government by 1941 . After that, the work of the Congress was also determined by the events of World War II . After the war, Pace saw the start of the Cold War in Congress .
In 1950 Stephen Pace declined to run again. In the following years, up to his death in April 1970 in Americus, he worked there as a lawyer.
