Morgan Rawls (born June 29, 1829 in Statesboro , Georgia , †  October 18, 1906 in Guyton , Georgia) was an American politician . Between 1873 and 1874 he represented the state of Georgia in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Morgan Rawls attended public schools in his home country and then worked in agriculture. In 1856 he moved to Guyton. During the civil war he was first a captain and later a colonel in an infantry regiment of the Confederate Army . Politically, he was a member of the Democratic Party . Between 1863 and 1904 he was a member of the Georgia House of Representatives . In 1865 he was a delegate to the assembly to revise the state constitution.

In the 1872 congressional election , Rawls was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the first constituency of Georgia , where he succeeded Archibald T. MacIntyre on March 4, 1873 . However, the election was challenged by his Republican rival Andrew Sloan . After this objection was granted, Rawls had to cede his mandate on March 24, 1874 to Sloan.

Morgan Rawls was an administrator in the US House of Representatives from 1874 to 1882 and from 1891 to 1895. Otherwise he went back to farming. He died in Guyton on October 18, 1906.
