Patrick Lynn "Pat" Swindall (born October 18, 1950 in Gadsden , Alabama , † July 11, 2018 in Johns Creek , Georgia ) was an American politician . Between 1985 and 1989 he represented the state of Georgia in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Pat Swindall attended the public schools in his home country and then studied at the University of Georgia until 1972 . After completing a law degree at the same university and being admitted to the bar in 1975, he began working in his profession in Atlanta . Politically, Swindall became a member of the Republican Party . In the 1984 congressional election he was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the fourth constituency of Georgia , where he succeeded Elliott H. Levitas on January 3, 1985 . After being re-elected, he was able to complete two terms in Congress until January 3, 1989 .

Swindall's career was not free from controversy. In 1988 he was charged with perjury . This charge was one reason for his defeat in the congressional elections that year. He was later sentenced to one year in prison. After his release, he hosted a conservative religious radio show. He hit the headlines again in 2009 on charges. This time it was about illegal campaign donations to an Atlanta city councilor. Pat Swindall later ran an investment firm in Atlanta.
