Max Burns

O. Maxie "Max" Burns (born November 8, 1948 in Millen , Jenkins County , Georgia ) is an American politician . Between 2003 and 2005 he represented the state of Georgia in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Max Burns studied at the Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta until 1973 and then until 1977 at the Georgia State University there . In 1987 he also studied philosophy at this university. In the meantime he became a member of the US Army Reserve in 1973 . Burns was a professor at Georgia Southern University for 20 years .

Politically, he became a member of the Republican Party . Between 1993 and 1998 he served on the Screven County County Council . In the 2002 congressional elections , he was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the then re-established twelfth constituency of Georgia , where he took up his new mandate on January 3, 2003. Since he in the elections of 2004 the Democrats John Barrow defeated, he could only one term in until January 3, 2005 Congress completed. In 2006 he ran unsuccessfully against Barrow for his return to the US House of Representatives. However, the election result was extremely close. Both candidates scored 50%. Barrow got 71,651 votes, Burns got 70,787.

Today Max Burns is Dean of Mike Cottrell Business School at North Georgia College & State University in Dahlonega .
