James C. Freeman

James Crawford Freeman (born April 1, 1820 in Gray , Jones County , Georgia , †  September 3, 1885 in Atlanta , Georgia) was an American politician . Between 1873 and 1875 he represented the state of Georgia in the US House of Representatives .

Career

James Freeman attended public schools in his home country and then worked in agriculture. In 1865 he moved to Griffin , where he continued this activity. He also got into commerce and banking.

Politically, Freeman joined the Republican Party after the Civil War . In the congressional election of 1872 he was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the fifth constituency of Georgia , where he succeeded Dudley M. DuBose on March 4, 1873 . Until March 3, 1875, he had only one term in Congress . It is noteworthy that he referred Henry Ossian Flipper to the US Military Academy at West Point , who was the first African American to graduate from this academy.

After retiring from the US House of Representatives, James Freeman moved to Atlanta, where he worked in commerce. He died there on September 3, 1885.
