Samuel F. Gove

Samuel Francis Gove (born March 9, 1822 in Weymouth , Norfolk County , Massachusetts , †  December 3, 1900 in St. Augustine , Florida ) was an American politician . Between 1868 and 1869 he represented the state of Georgia in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Samuel Gove attended his homeland public schools and moved with his parents to Georgia in 1835, where the family settled in Twiggs County . There Gove worked in trade and agriculture. He was also a missionary. Politically, he only appeared as a member of the Republican Party after the Civil War .

After the re-admission of the State of Georgia to the Union, he was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the fourth constituency of Georgia , where he took up his new mandate on June 25, 1868. He was confirmed in the regular congressional elections of 1868 . However, since his seat was denied to him, he could only end the current legislative period in Congress until March 3, 1869 .

In 1877, Samuel Gove was ordained as a clergyman in the Baptist Church. Between 1879 and his death on December 3, 1900, he was a traveling missionary for his church.
