WS Stuckey (1971)

Williamson Sylvester Stuckey Jr. (born May 25, 1935 in Eastman , Georgia ) is an American politician . Between 1967 and 1977 he represented the state of Georgia in the US House of Representatives .

Career

W. S. Stuckey attended Woodward Academy in College Park until 1952 . He then studied at the University of Georgia in Athens until 1959 . Between 1958 and 1966 he was president of several family-owned companies.

Politically, Stuckey became a member of the Democratic Party . In the 1966 congressional elections , he was elected as their candidate in the eighth constituency of Georgia to the House of Representatives in Washington, DC , where he succeeded J. Russell Tuten on January 3, 1967 . After four re-elections, he was able to complete five legislative terms in Congress by January 3, 1977 . During this time the Vietnam War ended . In 1974, the Watergate affair also overshadowed the work of Congress. During Stuckey's time in the US House of Representatives, the 25th and 26th amendments to the Constitution were passed.

In 1976 W. S. Stuckey renounced another candidacy for Congress. Since then he has devoted himself to the family-owned businesses again. Since 1985 he has been President of Stuckey's Corp.
