Eastman is a city and also the county seat of Dodge County in the US state of Georgia with 4962 inhabitants (as of 2010).

Eastman is about 200 km southeast of Atlanta .
history
The city was first settled in 1840 and is named after William Pitt Eastman, who donated a large part of his land to it. In the past it was referred to as the "Paris of the Wiregrass" and enjoyed a reputation for being of a high cultural level. The city-based Stuckey Candy Plant is locally famous and nicknamed Eastman the "Candy Capital of Georgia" .
Demographic data
According to the 2010 census, the then 4962 inhabitants were distributed among households inhabited in 2009, which results in an average of 2.33 people per household. There are a total of 2342 households.
61.1% of the households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or one parent with offspring) with an average size of 3.00 persons. There were children under the age of 18 in 33.2% of all households and persons aged 65 or over in 28.5% of all households.
28.6% of the population were younger than 20 years, 25.7% were 20 to 39 years old, 23.8% were 40 to 59 years old, and 21.8% were at least 60 years old. The mean age was 37 years. 47.1% of the population were male and 52.9% were female.
58.8% of the population identified themselves as whites , 36.5% as African American , 0.3% as Indians and 1.0% as Asian Americans . 2.5% said they belonged to another ethnic group and 0.9% to several ethnic groups. 4.7% of the population was made up of Hispanics or Latinos .
The average annual income per household was 33,243 USD , while 24.3% of the population lived below the poverty line.

Eastman has four public schools, Dodge County High School , South Dodge Elementary School, North Dodge Elementary School, and Dodge County Middle School. There is also a public library in the city.

The crime rate in 2010 was 660 points (US average: 266 points) in the high range. There were three rapes, eight robberies, 41 assaults, 79 break-ins, 401 thefts and eight car thefts.
