Joseph Webber Jackson
Joseph Webber Jackson (born December 6, 1796 in Cedar Hill , Georgia , † September 29, 1854 in Savannah , Georgia) was an American politician and lawyer. He represented the state of Georgia in the United States House of Representatives .
Born near Savannah, Joseph Jackson studied law and worked as a lawyer in Georgia after his admission. He was a member of the Savannah parish council and served as the city's mayor. He was then elected to the Georgia House of Representatives and later represented a constituency in the State Senate . Jackson was a captain of the Savannah Volunteer Guards and later a colonel of the 1st Georgia Militia Regiment , a state volunteer organization and a forerunner of the Georgia Army National Guard . Jackson also served as a judge on the state's Superior Court .
Jackson was in 1850 for the remaining term of the mandate of the retiring Thomas Butler King as a member of the Democrats for the first constituency elected to Georgia in the 31st term in the US House of Representatives. For the 32nd electoral term he was re-elected and thus officiated from March 4, 1850 to March 3, 1853. He did not run again for election, his successor was James Lindsay Seward .
