Archibald T. MacIntyre

Archibald Thompson MacIntyre (born October 27, 1822 in Marion , Twiggs County , Georgia , †  January 1, 1900 in Thomasville , Georgia) was an American politician . Between 1871 and 1873 he represented the state of Georgia in the US House of Representatives .

Career

In 1826, Archibald MacIntyre moved to Thomas County with his parents . There he attended public schools including the Thomasville Academy . After studying law in Monticello ( Florida ) and Macon (Georgia) and being admitted to the bar in 1843, he began working in his new profession in Thomasville. At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Democratic Party . In 1849 he was elected to the Georgia House of Representatives. During the Civil War , he was a colonel in a Confederate Army infantry unit made up of soldiers from Georgia State . In 1865, MacIntyre was a delegate to a meeting to revise the Georgia Constitution.

In the congressional election of 1870 he was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the first constituency of Georgia , where he succeeded William W. Paine on March 4, 1871 . Since he refused to run again in 1872, he was only able to complete one legislative period in Congress until March 3, 1873 . After leaving the US House of Representatives, MacIntyre returned to work as a lawyer. He was also a curator of the University of Georgia and the Georgia State Sanitarium . He died on January 1, 1900 in Thomasville.
