Jesse Franklin Cleveland

Jesse Franklin Cleveland (born October 25, 1804 in Greenville , South Carolina , †  June 22, 1841 in Charleston , South Carolina) was an American politician . Between 1835 and 1839 he represented the state of Georgia in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Jesse Cleveland attended his homeland public schools and then moved to Georgia. There he began a political career as a member of the Democratic Party founded by President Andrew Jackson . Between 1831 and 1834 he was a member of the Georgia Senate . After the resignation of Congressman William Schley , Cleveland was elected as his successor to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , where he took up his new mandate on October 5, 1835. After being re-elected, he could remain in Congress until March 3, 1839 .

After leaving the US House of Representatives, Jesse Cleveland moved to Charleston, South Carolina, where he worked in commerce. There he also became a director at the State Bank of South Carolina . He held this office until his death on June 22, 1841 in Charleston.
